Dear Martha

Dear Martha:
Can you please explain why it’s beneficial for me to use your services as opposed to finding resume examples, or a resume builder myself?
Thanks, Tucson Arizona

Hello Tucson!
That’s a great question and one I wish people would ask more often!

There is so much that goes into building a resume.  If you choose to find a template and plug in your personal information, it can actually hinder your job search.

Here’s why: Many companies use Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), which scan for contextual keywords, key phrases that then score resumes to determine the most qualified for human review.  Using a resume template will not identify potential words and phrases for the specific industry or job you are targeting.  This ATS tool saves the Human Resources Department a lot of work, but unfortunately causes a lot of resumes to end up in the shredder.

Keep in mind resume formats change and are formatted to specifically suit an industry. An online sample resume may “look” good, but may not hit all the key phrases needed to get your foot in the door.  And if your resume DOES get to the human eye, within 6 seconds one will determine if you are the right candidate for an interview.

You can search online for a good resume template or resume builder tool, but more than not it will be a waste of your time.  Hire a professional resume writer who uses the best practices in highlighting your skills achievements while quantifying your successful results.
